A. No. Initial money has come from the park and recreation funds in each town. Annual funding will continue to come from these same accounts, as well as funds raised through the Friends of Schuyler Park.
A. Both the towns of Northumberland and Saratoga have park and recreation funds that have accrued over the years through park fees that are attached to new building lots in each town. These monies are now being used to bring Schuyler Park to fruition. Increased recreational space is part of each town’s master plan and both towns have been working towards this goal for many years.
A. While we have a master plan for the site, it will definitely be completed in phases. The first phase was work behind the scenes for over a year, completing the master plan and conducting the necessary and required studies. In September 2008, approximately 7.5 acres of the site began being cleared, with trees being cut and removed and the ground being leveled. The majority of the work was completed in 2009 with our offical opening in the spring of 2010. In 2012 the park introduced our playground and the Ryan Rossley Pavilion. In late 2014 the baseball field was expanded to a regulation size little league field. This phase was completed in the spring of 2015 with the installation of the irrigation system, infield mix and sod. In 2019 the west side pavilion was completed. Other portions of the project will be phased in after that as time and funds allow.
A. Saratoga Builders donated approximately 27 acres of land adjacent to Route 29 and Louden Road in the Town of Saratoga. Of that total, approximately half of the land will remain as is and be used for passive recreation, hiking, etc. Approximately 6.3 acres will be used for active recreation/ball fields, with the balance supporting driveways, parking, a playground and pavilion area, basketball courts, concessions stands/restrooms, and a maintenance building.
